Crockpot pea and ham soup
(at time of publication)
- 1 ham or bacon hock
- 1 large onion, diced
- 2 cloves garlic, chopped
- 2 carrots, diced
- 1 stick celery, diced
- 3 bay leaves
- 500g yellow or green split peas
- 1.5 litres water
- basil or parsley, to garnish
- freshly ground black pepper
1 Place all ingredients in the slow cooker, adding the water last.
2 Put the lid on and cook on high for 4-5 hours or on low for 8-10 hours, until the peas are very soft and the ham falls off the bone. Remove ham bone from the slow cooker and remove the fat and meat from the bone. Discard fat. Roughly chop the meat and add back to the soup.
3 Garnish with pepper and basil or parsley and serve.
Make it gluten free: Check your ham or bacon are gluten free, and serve with gluten-free bread.
